Minik Kaplanlar ile 4. Çeyrek 2. Hafta

Yeni haftadan herkese merhaba.

5th Grade Native, 16th to 27th April

Relating to our topic of the Future Tense and “will,” I asked the children to make mini-books titled “What will I do when I grow up?” They could write and draw each page about one of the topics relating to their future life, but all sentences had to have “will” in them. They then made covers of different colors for their books, decorated the front page, and tied them up.

We worked on these books into the second week, while I told them how to write the titles for their books, and then “usually” below it, name of the author. At the back of the cover they also entered prices for the books and the published date.

4th Grade Native, 16th to 27th April

We moved on with the videobook of Close Shave featuring Wallace and Gromit. Also relating to a part of the exercises about the names of different foods, we played some online games at the British Council website that feature the name of foods in a fun and interactive and truly educational way, and the children really loved it.

In the second week, after finishing the first episode and learning and writing all the relevant words, we played an online Hangman game about the words they had learned, which I had entered and prepared for them beforehand. They played in two groups.

3rd Grade Native, 16th to 27th of April

We moved on with our videobook of Wallace and Gromit in the first week.

We also made a craft of posters illustrating house rentals, which was both related to a part of their videobook and the lesson they are having in their English Grammar class. I asked them each to imagine that they have a house or a room that they want to rent or sell. What would they write on the poster? They can then decorate it however they want. We kept on working on the posters into the second week, where we have seen images of different rental posters, so that the children have developed new ideas and parts for their house and posters. They have also named and written the various parts of their houses, from the basement to the attic:)

2nd Grade Native, 16th to 27th April

The second grade moved on to the new subject of food. We worked on the names of different foods. Then we played a “picnic game” and the children chose foods that they wanted and drew, colored and cut them, put them onto paper ‘plates’ and brought them out on the ‘napkins’ on the picnic ground.

We also played online games from the British Council website, featuring the names of different foods in a fun and interactive way, which will really help them memorize and learn the name of different foods.

In the second week, we worked on the names of more foods, their descriptions in one to two sentence structures, and how to write them, in a very colorful worksheet.  Then we learned about the words related to flour, by making a real flour “dough” in the classroom with water, and “kneading” it, “pressing” it, “working” with it, making it less “sticky” and more “firm” and “round,” etc. Then the children made different things with their dough: doughnuts, cookies, pizza, pancakes, etc. In the end we also brought in some pretty vibrant colors from the art room to color our dough for the various things we wanted to place on our foods.

1st Grade Native, 16th to 27th April

We started the subject of clothes. We learned the names of different articles of clothes by watching songs and also asking the children each to show what they were wearing, e.g. skirt, jeans, pants, dress, socks, etc. Then each of the children drew themselves and the clothes that they were wearing at the moment, cut it out, wrote the names of the clothes as written on the board behind each one on the paper, and glued them altogether on our toy garland in the classroom.

In the next session, we used paper origami to make clothes. The boys and girls each sat at one table, first the clothing article that we were going to make was shown, they were given papers and folded it according to what I showed and explained to them: fold in half, press it hard, turn it upside down,  etc. The girls made pretty little paper dresses and the boys made paper shirts.

In the second week, we followed our subject of clothes by learning how each different clothing article is worn in a different weather, while we also learned the names of different weather conditions, and we began a craft about it that will be completed by the children in the next week.

Prep Grade, 16th to 27th April

In the first week, we followed our previous lesson about toys by starting to make toy mobiles. The toy cards that the children had previously held and played with were punched and given to them with a rope that they had to tie to, and then tie that to one side of a little wooden stick. Each wooden stick eventually got two toy cards on each side hanging from it.

The next session the names of each toy was printed and laminated on little cards. The children guessed the name for each card and then had to glue it behind the toy cards. The nearly finished toy mobile can be seen in the picture below, and now we are just looking for a nice place in the classroom to hang it from!

In the next lessons we also played a game in which the children had to jump and touch each toy card that I named.

Next, we reached the subject of prepositions. We worked on the topic by making musical instruments out of paper cups. Little triangles and squares of different color were cut and prepared on the table. The children had to stick a given number of triangles ‘under’ the cup, and a given number of squares ‘around’ it. Then each of them was given a handful of chickpeas to pour ‘in’ their cups. Then, they had to cut out the big circles that were drawn for them on red cardboard, draw on them whatever they liked, and then glue them ‘on’ their cups, with the chickpeas inside. When the cups were ready, we shook them to the music of the songs that we had listened to so far.
